NEW DELHI: A traffic constable befriended a 30-year-old woman over a month, lured her into taking a ride with him and allegedly raped her along with his friend in a moving car in the heart of Lutyens Delhi on Sunday night, adding yet another instance to the growing record of law enforcers turning criminals. The victim, who lives in Odisha with her husband and daughter, was in Delhi on work.

The incident came to light a day later when the victim, who has been living in Lajpat Nagar Part-II in southeast Delhi, lodged a complaint with Connaught Place police. The accused — Mukesh Kumar, posted with Chanakyapuri traffic circle, and his friend Sudhir Kumar, catering staff at the airport — drank and raped her while driving through posh Chanakyapuri and Connaught Place, she said.

Mukesh and Sudhir, both residents of Uttam Nagar in west Delhi, were arrested following the complaint. Both are 25-28 years old and married, police said.
